Air Jordan release sparks stampedes at stores across US
Rowdy scenes have broken out at stores across the US as shoppers jostled to lay their hands on Nike’s new shoe.
There was disorder from California to Georgia as shoppers vied to buy a retro version of a classic Air Jordan model.
A new pair costs about $180 (£115), but they are already being listed on eBay for as much as $605.
The ugly scenes recalled the violence that broke out in the early 1990s on streets across America as the shoes became popular targets for thieves.
In the early hours of Friday, police used pepper spray on about 20 customers who started fighting at a mall in suburban Seattle, Washington state, as they waited in line to buy the black-and-white Air Jordan 11 Retro Concords.

US Black Friday marred by shootings, pepper-sprayings
The start of the US holiday shopping season was marred by shootings and pepper-sprayings as bargain-hunters stampeded stores.
The violence gave a whole new meaning to Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving when many retailers move out of the red and into the black.
The incidents, including at least two robberies, mostly took place at branches of the store chain Walmart.
Half of the entire US population is expected to hit the shops this weekend.
Many stores had crowds rushing in as they opened at midnight – several hours earlier than they usually do – on the busiest shopping day of the year.
The openings were mostly peaceful, but there were ugly scenes in some places as crowds competed for goods.
One of the most dramatic incidents happened in a Walmart store in Los Angeles, where police are using CCTV footage to hunt for a woman who used pepper spray on crowds competing for Xbox 360s.
“They [staff] were opening a package to try to get some Xboxes from a crate and this lady pepper-sprayed a whole bunch of people in order to gain an advantage over the Xboxes,” a local police sergeant said.
In the most violent incident, a man is in a stable but critical condition in hospital after being shot in the early hours as he left a Walmart with a group of people in San Leandro, California, when they resisted two armed robbers who demanded their purchases
- A man was reportedly detained for resisting arrest after a fight at the jewellery counter in the early hours at a Walmart in Kissimmee, Florida
- Police are looking for two suspects after gunfire erupted early on Friday at a shopping centre in Fayetteville, North Carolina; there were no reports of injuries
- Security workers reportedly used pepper spray on shoppers who began grabbing at goods before they were unloaded from pallets at a Walmart in Kinston, North Carolina
- A woman was shot in the foot by a robber as she loaded her purchases into her car in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; the gunman fled as one of the victim’s companions brandished a revolver and fired warning shots.

To describe this behaviour as ‘animal’ is denigrating animals. Only humans descend to this level of greed; and we call ourselves civilised. I look at this avarice and greed and can only be ashamed to be called human along with these pathetic examples.
Folks, we seriously need to evaluate ourselves. What a bunch of hypocrites; one day piously giving thanks, the next day it’s a case of ‘fuck everybody!’
Black Friday should be banned.
Yes, the ‘protectors’ of law and enforcement are using chemical weapons, the same chemical weapons it condemns other countries using against them.
But this is not happening in Iraq nor Afghanistan. It is happening in the USA, and what is even worse is that it is being used against non-combatants, US citizens, peaceful protesters.
Things are getting out of control. And, I don’t mean the protesters, I am talking about the AUTHORITIES! The ones who are supposed to be protecting the American people.

US university investigates campus pepper spray use
A US university says it is launching an investigation into the use of pepper spray by riot police trying to clear a demonstration.
Video of the incident at the University of California, Davis, shows officers blasting seated protesters in the face with the chemical at close range.
The university chancellor, who had called in the police, described the pepper spray incident as “chilling”.
The protest, on Friday, was in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement.
It was intended to show solidarity with protesters at another branch of the Univeristy of California, in Berkeley, who were hit with batons by police on 9 November.
The footage of the pepper spray incident, which has been circulated widely on the internet, has caused outrage among students.
(Watch this video clip, these are the cries of Americans! These are the ones trying to change things for YOU!)
The protesters are seen sitting in a line on the floor with their arms interlocked, refusing to move.
They try to cover their faces as officers in riot gear walk along emptying canisters of the spray onto them.
Linda Katehi, Chancellor of the University of California, Davis, near Sacramento, says she is forming a task force to investigate what happened.
“The use of pepper spray as shown on the video is chilling to us all and raises many questions about how best to handle situations like this,” she said in a message on the university’s website.
The Davis Faculty Association, which represents academic staff, has condemned the University of California’s approach to protests on several different campuses.
“This week, we have seen excessive force used against non-violent protesters,” said a statement on the association’s website.

When this kind of thing happens in Tienanmen Square, Egypt, Libya, Syria and Yemen, your government cries “Foul!” Then the hypocrites do the same thing to American people… there’s something bloody crazy going on.
The police departments have been bought lock, stock and barrel by the 1%, the 99% don’t count, they are the troublemakers.
Sure, the 99% are troublemakers, because the other 1% are immune criminals and nobody is trying to bring the bastards to justice, or using pepper spray on them.
Police in a small Utah town are being accused of overreacting after using pepper spray to break up a group of Polynesian men and boys performing a traditional dance called the Haka after a high school football game.
The Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune report two officers took action against the dancers who were blocking an exit as players and game officials were trying to leave Thursday night after the Union-Uintah game.
Police say the officers used the pepper spray after failing to break up the crowd, and the incident is under investigation.
Union fan Jason Kelly says the police action was an embarrassment.

Just goes to show what a bunch of uncultured wankers are keeping the people safe in Utah. Considering that Utah has a large Polynesian community, the police should be a little more culturally aware and not running around like a bunch of thugs with pepper spray.
